Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety and Depression are often linked in many ways that are not immediately obvious to the outside observer. Dr. Koppa works with individuals to recognize how insidious this can be. This regularly impacts interest in daily activities, sleep, appetite, feelings of sadness or distraction, physical pain, irritability, and altering the way we think and feel about ourselves and the world around us. It is normal to experience a certain level of anxiety in our lives and in fact helps keep us motivated and safe at times. However, when anxiety begins to interfere with day-to-day life, it should be addressed. Dr. Koppa works with clients to learn coping skills and relaxation techniques. Referrals for possible medication adjustments are recommended as needed. All of these together help create positive change for clients.

Parents and Families

Dr. Rachel Koppa has extensive experience working with parents and families. Over the last 15 years+, she has worked with parents and families struggling with everything from divorce, co-parenting, and difficulty with communication. In graduate school, Dr. Koppa was trained from a family systems perspective and believes in helping parents and families work through their struggles in the safest and healthiest way possible.

Body Image & Eating Disorders

Dr. Koppa worked with both the client struggling with an eating disorder and their family while in treatment. She worked for 2 years as a family therapist on the Inpatient Eating Disorder Unit at Children’s Health. She then worked in the Intensive Outpatient Program for Pediatric Eating Disorders where she provided individual, family, and group therapy. She helped present and gather data for the only evidence-based program, The Body Project,  focused on the prevention of eating disorders. It was presented to patients and parents helping further the research and efficacy of the program. Dr. Koppa has given presentations in the community, ranging from high school students to pediatricians, related to body image and eating disorders. She has worked extensively with a vast network of clinicians with which she utilizes and refers clients as needed (treatment centers, psychiatrists, dietitians, etc).

Childbearing Cycle Disturbances

Dr. Rachel Koppa has a heart for those struggling with complications related to the childbearing cycle (ie- infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, postpartum depression, etc). This is meant to be “easy” and yet for many women it IS NOT. This causes a great deal of stress and anxiety that may lead to depression. So often those struggling feel isolated and unsafe to express their worries, hurts and fears.  Dr. Koppa provides a safe place to express yourself and work through the feelings of this experience.
